Killin My Goal

So...I beat my goal and ran twice while in Toronto. I'm off to a great start. Had a pretty easy treadmill run. Gotta love working out in hotel gyms filled with you and a bunch of old business men.

Running eh

In Toronto for a work photo shoot and after standing outside in the freezing weather for over 8 hours even my bones were cold. I tried warming up in my hotel room for a while, but decided the best way to warm up was to go running. Changed clothes and headed off to the treadmill.

It felt great to run as the day before I sat ALL day on a plane and today literally stood around for 8 hours. Quickly warmed up and was feeling great about my run. Ran 4 miles and had to stop as we had dinner plans, but was feeling it and could have kept going.

Goal for the next 2 weeks

If I don't put this out there, I am less likely to do it so here goes.

I'm off to Toronto for work until Friday. It is my goal to run at least 1 night while there. This should be doable, but there is something about hotel rooms and 3 hour time changes that make me so lazy.

Friday I'm off to Miami for a week long cruise. My goal is to run at least 2 times while on vacation. I know it might mean less sleep, time in the sun, or missing out on some great live music, but I also know if I go 2 weeks with only one run I'm going to hate life when I come back to reality.

Wish me luck.

I Heart Books

With anything I do, I like to learn as much about it as I can. The person that has really inspired me to run recommend Running for Mortals by John Bingham and Jenny Hadfield.

It was a very quick read and great for beginning runners. Great tips, advice, and reassurance in my running ups and downs. I'm now starting Marathoning for Mortals by the same authors.

Seattle Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon

My goal of running a 1/2 marathon is still a few months away, but I was so excited they finally posted the course! When I get back into town, I'm going to have to drive it and start visualizing myself finishing strong.

Seeing the course made me even more excited and a little intimidated at the same time. 8 miles was pretty rough, but I still have plenty of time to train and my goal is to finish even if I end up walking. I WILL finish.

A Few Little Guys

I was sore for a few days after my long Saturday run and have developed a strange "pain" in my left foot so I took it easy this week. It also did not help that I have been ridiculously busy and not sleeping well because I'm so excited for my upcoming CRUISE!!!

2/16/09 - 2.82 miles, 37.15 minutes
Monday I "ran" (there was a lot more walking then running going on) around Greenlake. The weather was beautiful and the lack of people on a Monday afternoon was refreshing. I "ran" with a friend that is just picking up running so we did the walk 2 minutes, run 1 minute around the lake. It was nice to take it very slow.

2/20/09 - 3 miles, 33.22 minutes
Sunny weather and another lap around Greenlake. Feeling less sore, but my foot is still bothering me. Perhaps I should stop wearing heals? :)

2/21/09 - 3 miles, 38.52 minutes
DID NOT WANT TO RUN TODAY, but had committed to run again with my friend that is starting out. Did another slow lap around Greenlake with our 2/1 walk run pattern. It was nice to get out in the fresh air and I started to get excited about the warmer weather.

8 Miles

My plan was to get up and run 8 miles Saturday, but as I crawled out of bed around 10:00 I just was not feeling it and since it was Valentines Day I was not going to push it. I did a little cleaning and went to the store, but as I was driving home the sun came out and I kept thinking of the route I had planned out. I kept thinking about it and knew that I would be so disappointed if I did not run as this was my last real chance to get a long run in before my cruise!

I went home, changed my clothes and was out the door before I changed my mind. I ran my favorite Magnolia loop and was feeling good as I was reaching 6 miles. I stopped to grab a few pictures along the way to help you see what an amazing view I have while running.

This is looking out at Alki.

I made the loop and started running down 15th towards downtown Seattle. Not my favorite rode to run on. Lot's of smelly cars that are close to the sidewalk and not looking out for pedestrians at intersections or business driveways. Ran to the edge of Belltown and looped back home. Started to feel like crap around mile 7 and the last mile was not pretty, but I made it.

Feeling a little stiff today, but overall am impressed with myself. I can't believe I just ran 8 freakin miles! Happy Valentines Day to ME!

Greenlake Again

Ran Greenlake with a friend from church. She's a great running partner as she was ok running at my pace :) I forgot to turn on my Nike+ for the first 1/2 mile, but what ever. Felt great after and love getting the daily fresh air.

Quicky

Met up with my friend daddy long legs at Greenlake again, but told him I was running at my slower pace today and he was more then welcome to run ahead. It was a little chilly, but still nice to be outside in the fresh air. Long legs had to pee so ran ahead and told me he would catch up.

As I was passing the restrooms keeping an eye out, I saw his roommate J. J also runs faster then me, but we ended up played this cat and mouse game of passing each other for a few miles.

I should have stopped and waited for long legs, but I was feeling good. Met up with him at the end, did some quick stretching and quickly go in the car as the cold started to get the better of me.

I love that I can now say 3 miles is a quick and short run for me. :) I finally feel like a real runner.

Saturday Long Runs

I slept in this morning and did NOT feel like running. I knew I needed to, but I was not into it. After some motivating reminders from my friend Janey and the appearance of the sun, I got dressed, laced up my shoes and headed out. I decided to run the same loop around Magnolia minus the up and down hill cut through the neighborhood.

The run started out pretty rough. More walking then I would like, but at least I was out and "running." Once I slowly made it to the top of the hill and was running along the water I was feeling much better. It was colder today and the sun was not as bright which meant there was less foot traffic. On one hand it was nice to not weave in and out of as many people, but I also like seeing others along the way. It helps distract me and keep me running. If I'm about to start walking and see someone turn the corner, I'll keep running. Heaven forbid they should see me walking. :)

I also came across my new favorite running song while listening to my iPond on shuffle, Beat Control by Tilly & the Wall. It's got a great beat and the perfect amount of cheesy pop music to keep me going.

I'm glad I ran and impressed that I went for 6 miles. Thanks Janey for your reminder of how great I would feel when I was done.

I need to be better about this

Clearly I'm behind in my blogging. So many runs since my last post. Some amazing, some not so hot.

1/24/09 - 5.42 miles, 64.47 minutes
It was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. I called up and friend and met up with her at Greenlake. We started off at a great pace, but our "run" ended up being more of a fast walk and talk around the lake. We made one loop and I decided to do a second to get more actual running it. Great run and great conversation.

1/26/09 - 3.05 miles, 33.01 minutes
Ran at the gym. I no longer enjoy running on a treadmill. It's so much harder.

1/28/09 - 3.01 miles, 34.34 minutes
Another run at the gym.

1/31/09 - 7.04 miles, 82.14 minutes
This was my most amazing run yet. I wanted to get a 7 mile run in and am getting a little board with Greenlake so I switched it up. I ran around the outside of Magnolia, up to Discovery park, down Magnolia Blvd, down Thorndyke, cut back up and through the neighborhood and ended with one final lap around the block at home.

I was up top the hill around mile 4 and hitting a wall. I turned the corner to the most amazing view of the ocean, the sun was shining and my favorite Brandi Carlile song (Turpentine) started playing on my iPod. I was totally and completely overwhelmed by the beauty and amazing feeling that came over me. I started to cry and ran a good 2 miles on the best high ever. It was amazing. The last mile of this run was a killer as it was all up and down the steep steep hills of Magnolia, but I made it. My longest run to date. My Nike+ was reviewing my stats when all of a sudden I hear this, "This is Lance Armstrong. That was your longest workout. Congratulations." I laughed pretty hard at this, but like to think Lance and I are now BFF. My friends tell me there is more where this came from on my Nike+. Can't wait!

2/02/09 - 3.04 miles, 31.45 minutes
Sunday I was feeling a little stiff from my long run so Monday I was ready to get back out there and get those muscles moving again. Had a great quick 3 mile run around Greenlake. The sun was out and I felt great. I ran at a pretty fast pace (for me) and did not over do it.

2/03/09 - 2.88 miles, 29.20 minutes
I knew I should have rested on this day, but I also knew I would not be able to run the following night and had been trying to schedule a run with another friend and this was the night. We met up at Greenlake and about 5 seconds after we started, I quickly realized that my legs were significantly shorter then his = he runs MUCH faster then me. However I can run much longer. He slowed down and I sped up, but by the end my right hip/butt cheek was hurting. Not a great run. Looking forward to resting tonight and when I say resting, I mean standing for 4 hours at a concert. :)
