So. I ran 6 1/2 marathons in the course of a year and decided that in 2011 I'm going to run a full marathon. The Top Of Utah Marathon to be exact. I decided this one because I have a friend that will run it with me and the slight downhill course makes it a bit easier then any hilly course I could find her in Seattle. So to all of you in Utah or those that want to travel there next September, you have a year to train. You can do it.
Today was the first day I've ran in longer then I'd like to admit. It felt great. My knees were a little tired by the end, but I missed it. I missed the fresh air, the sound of my shoes hitting the pavement, watching other on the trail, and that amazing feeling I get when I'm done. Needless to say, I'm back with a big goal, but one I'm going to meet.
Can't wait to run my ass of...literally.

1/2 Marathon Eve
I've missed blogging about my two 8 mile runs and my 11 mile run, but now is not the time to catch up. It's the night before my first 1/2 marathon and I'm feeling excited. I thought I would be more nervous, but I feel mentally and physically prepared.
I've trained, carb loaded, driven the course, picked up my race packet, laid out my clothes, arranged a ride and have the support of many great friends and my family.
I can't wait. I never thought I would be this excited about running, but it's kind of like Christmas Eve.
I sure hope it goes well because I've signed up for the Vegas 2009 and Seattle 2010 Rock n' Roll 1/2 marathons!

So much running
Ok...I have got to be better about this. I'm forgetting the details.
4/6/09 - 3.01 miles, 32.49 minutes
Greenlake run.
4/9/09 - 3.01 miles, 33.03 minutes
Greenlake run again.
4/11/09 - 5.02 miles, 54.36 minutes
Mapped out my course and hit the road. Spokane is not as friendly of a running town as Seattle. The sidewalks suck and traffic does not stop for you. Rude. The weather was nice and it was fun to run through my old stomping grounds. Running past Hart Field always brings back great memories of my high school adventures.
4/13/09 - 3.00 miles, 34.34 minutes
Greenlake.
4/17/09 - 4.69 miles, 52.58 minutes
The great thing about running in Salt Lake is the long strait roads. The bad thing would be the altitude. It was hotter then I'm use to, but I enjoyed seeing all the cute homes in Sugar House. At one point I ran past a guy in a truck that I swore was Dewey, but it was not his truck so I did not think too much of it. When I got back I had a voice mail from him telling me to call. Turns out it was him. I guess along with a new wife he also got a new car. Talk about small world.
4/21/09 - 3.04 miles, 34.13 minutes
Ran around Magnolia after my gym appointment. I'm getting sick of Greenlake and this way I don't have to drive across town to get there.
4/23/09 - 3.13 miles, 33.28 minutes
Greenlake.
4/25/09 - 6.01 miles, 69.33 minutes
Woke up and run the same Magnolia loop around the neighborhood. There is the one steep hill that gets me every time. I make it half way and have to walk because I start to feel like I'm running backwards. I'm trying to "secret" this hill and one day I will make it all the way running.
4/28/09 - 3.03 miles, 33.53 minutes
Ran around Magnolia after my gym appointment.
4/30/09 - 6.02 miles, 68.35 minutes
It had been rainy for a few days and the sun was so enticing to me I left work a little early and hit up my Magnolia loop hoping to run along the water as the sun was setting. It was the most amazing and beautiful run. I needed to clear my head and this as just the thing. I also had the greatest run in with my new running friend. You can read about it here.
5/4/09 - 2.61 miles, 30.37 minutes
Cold and rainy out so crappy treadmill run. Clearly not my best work.
5/8/09 - 3.02 miles, 32.50 minutes
Ran around Magnolia after my gym appointment.
5/9/09 - 7.10 miles, 78.24 minutes
Found my new favorite running trail, the Burke Gilman. Ran from Fred Meyer to the Institute. My plan was to get water at the Institute and head back, but when I got there the door was locked. Lucky the missionaries were there to let me in. I always feel so slow when I run because everyone other runner passes me, but this time I passed a biker...yes a biker. So they were going extremely slow, but I still passed a biker. Felt amazing after this run. The sun was shinning, the fresh scenery was beautiful and my legs were feeling strong. Could have kept going.
5/11/09 - 3.02 miles, 32.20 minutes
Greenlake again, but picked the perfect time of day to run. Hardly anyone was out except for the old man walking his cat?

First Official Race - 15k
I was so excited to finally find a race that was not on Sunday and even more ecstatic when Kristen agreed to run it with me. The course seemed flat and beautiful and I also liked knowing it would not be a huge race. Seemed ideal for my first official race.
I did not sleep well the night before as nerves keep waking me up. It was a constant back and forth in my head. Could I really run 9 miles? Of course I could, I've run 8 before. Ya, but I wanted to die when I was done. But you are running at a better pace now. Conversations like this went on all night.
Saturday morning we got up and made our way to Birch Bay, checked in and were ready to go. Look how great we look pre-race.
The course was beautiful. The sun was out and the calm bay was amazing. We ran along the bay for a few miles and then headed into the Birch Bay national forest. While running along observing my beautiful surroundings I had a moment I will never for get. We were on about mile 4 and I was feeling great. The sun was out, the thick green trees were beautiful and all you could hear were the birds chirping and the sound of hundreds of feet running along the pavement. No one was talking, but the sound of our shoes on the pavement was overwhelming to me. At that moment I felt a part of something bigger.
Looped back and knew we were half way there. Kristen and I found a couple that ran at the perfect pace and followed them the entire run. Chatted a little with them and thanked them for the great pace.
With about 2 miles left, I noticed that one of my socks was sticking in my shoe. I looked down to see this.
My toes were bleeding so much that they bled through my socks and into the top of my shoe. I could not feel exactly where it was coming from and it did not hurt so I figured I would keep running and deal with it later.
I felt like Dory from Nemo and kept telling myself, "Running, running, just keep running" and before I knew it we had made the last turn with only 1k left. The home stretch included a steep hill, but once you made it up that the finish line was literally 500 feet away. Made it to the top and almost came to a walk when Kristen gave me some quick encouragement to keep running. We did it. Crossed the finish line without ever stopping to walk.
Our goal was to finish in under 2 hours so we were pumped to see our finish time of 1 hour 44 minutes. Crossing the finish line almost brought me to tears as the feeling of self accomplishment overcame me. I never ever would have thought I would be running in 15k's. I DID IT!
Kristen was the perfect running partner. I was so proud of the both of us. I tried to convince her to wear her medallion everywhere she went for the rest of the day, but I don't think it happened. You can bet I sure did. As we were heading out of town I made everyone stop to get a diet coke. The cashier asked about it and I said, "Oh, this this little thing. I just ran a 15k." She did not seem to care, but the guy behind me said congrats.
Jane and Camille were great cheerleaders and fun to see as we were crossing the finish line. Thanks ladies!
Headed back to the car, removed my shoes and found this. Strangely the only source of blood I could find was a little nick on the side of my middle toe from the smaller one.
Felt sore for the rest of the day, but feeling great today. Can't wait to go out Monday for a short run and to get ready for my 1/2 marathon in June. I don't think I could have asked for a better race. Thanks to everyone for all of the support and encouragement along the way. It was a day I will never forget.

Excited
This was the first Saturday I did not run because I was too lazy and I have to admit I am very disappointed with myself.
On a more positive note, I just signed up to run the Birch Bay 15k this coming weekend. I'M SOOOOOO EXCITED. My first official race. :) Making it a girls weekend with a few friends and can't wait.
